Decisions involving police leadership affect public safety, community trust and confidence in local institutions. When such significant changes occur behind closed doors, residents are left with questions and uncertainty.

Police services are funded by taxpayers and serve the public interest. While there may be legal or personnel matters that cannot be fully disclosed, local governments and police boards should still provide as much information as possible to maintain public trust. Transparency is essential, especially during a period when Surrey is already experiencing major changes in policing. Residents deserve to understand why important leadership decisions are being made and how those decisions will affect the future of policing in our city. Open communication helps build confidence between the public and the institutions that serve them.

Surrey is one of the fastest-growing cities in British Columbia, and its residents deserve accountability and transparency from public officials. Keeping the public informed is not simply good practice but is also necessary for maintaining trust in our local government and policing system.

Sahilpreet Singh Bajwa, Surrey

LETTER: Surrey residents deserve transparency on police chief ouster Published 8:09 am Friday, June 26, 2026 Editor, As…

[194299
49,48,87674
post-766756","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-surrey","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-surrey
["GET
