{"id":766785,"date":"2026-06-28T13:11:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-28T13:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/766785\/"},"modified":"2026-06-28T13:11:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T13:11:08","slug":"cost-cap-voo-doo-economics-employed-by-formula-1-teams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/766785\/","title":{"rendered":"Cost Cap Voo-Doo Economics employed by Formula 1 Teams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(GMM) Carlos Sainz Jr. (pictured) has echoed fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso\u2019s bemusement at how Formula 1\u2019s top teams continue to introduce upgrades almost every race despite the budget cap.<\/p>\n<p>Alonso joked earlier in Austria that the leading teams must have a \u201cmoney machine in the minus one floor in the factory\u201d after seeing yet another lengthy FIA upgrades list.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-496463\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2r245039.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\"\/>14 Fernando Alonso, (ESP), Aramco Aston Martin Honda AMR26, during the Austrian GP, Spielberg 25-28 June 2026, Red Bull Ring, Formula 1 World championship 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Sainz, meanwhile, is growing increasingly frustrated by Williams\u2019 stalled progress amid mounting speculation about his future beyond 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI somewhat agree with Fernando in what he said on Thursday,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very surprised by the number of improvements that the best teams bring. That\u2019s Formula 1, especially in a year when everyone is bringing upgrades to practically every race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe differences are enormous \u2013 they\u2019re gigantic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams brought nothing new to Austria, where Sainz failed to escape Q1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as we saw the list of upgrades from the other teams for this race, we clearly saw that if we already suffered in Barcelona with the heat and fast corners, then here, which is also hot and has fast corners, we were going to suffer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Editor\u2019s Note: We find it difficult to believe that top F1 teams, especially Ferrari who have brought upgrades just about every race, will not exceed the 2026 F1 cost cap. They almost have to be burying costs somewhere. So there are no secrets \u2013 either we bring things in or we\u2019ll keep fighting for Q1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams is planning a major upgrade for next weekend at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silverstone.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Silverstone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I\u2019m fighting to get into Q1, I hope this is the last time,\u201d he said. \u201cIf not, that\u2019s a bad sign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He admitted he cannot understand how the frontrunners continue developing so aggressively within the financial regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it were up to us, without a cost cap, we\u2019d bring in more upgrades,\u201d said Sainz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how the top teams do it, bringing upgrades every time. They must be more efficient with the cost cap, because they\u2019re constantly bringing upgrades, and I don\u2019t know why we midfielders can\u2019t bring as many.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s because we\u2019re limited by the cost cap.
