One person is dead and multiple people were injured, including a Toronto firefighter, after a high-rise blaze early Sunday morning in North York.<\/p>\n

Firefighters were reportedly alerted to the two-alarm blaze at an apartment building at 1420 Victoria Park Ave., south of Eglinton Ave., around 2 a.m. and found one occupant in a fully involved unit.<\/p>\n
Toronto Fire said two other residents of the building and a firefighter were hospitalized with unknown injuries, although fire Chief Jim Jessop later said on social media that the firefighter\u2019s injuries were minor.<\/p>\n

The two other occupants were reportedly treated for smoke inhalation<\/a>, CityNews reported.<\/p>\n \u201cThinking of the loved ones of the deceased and wishing the injured firefighter a speedy recovery,\u201d Jessop said in an update on the social media site X. \u201cThank you to all responding crews for their work.\u201d<\/p>\n Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal\u2019s office were also investigating the blaze.<\/p>\n COLLISION: UPDATE \u2014 Peel Regional Police (@PeelPolice) June 28, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n 1 dead, 5 injured in Brampton crash<\/p>\n The fatal fire came a few hours after a man was killed and five other men, all in their early 20s, were injured after a late-night crash Saturday in Brampton\u2019s north end where a vehicle allegedly ran a red light.<\/p>\n Peel Regional Police said they responded to the crash at about 10:45 p.m. in the McVean Dr.-Countryside Rd. area, where a sedan travelling eastbound on Countryside allegedly ran a red light and collided with another sedan going southbound on McVean.<\/p>\n The male passenger in the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n The driver of the vehicle that was travelling on Countryside and a passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, another had life-altering injuries and the fourth had non-life-threatening wounds.<\/p>\n RECOMMENDED VIDEO We apologize, but this video has failed to load.<\/p>\n Play VideoCharges \u2018pending\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cDue to the fact that next of kin has not been notified, I will not be providing any further information in relation to any of the injured parties,\u201d Const.
