ST. LOUIS (AP) \u2014 Bryan Torres<\/a> hit a two-run homer to back Kyle Leahy<\/a>\u2019s stingy start as the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a> cooled off the Miami Marlins<\/a> with a 2-1 victory Sunday that snapped a four-game skid.<\/p>\n

Masyn Winn<\/a> led off the second inning with a single against Tyler Phillips<\/a> (1-3) and Torres followed with his third home run for a 2-0 lead. <\/p>\n

Leahy (6-4) didn\u2019t allow a hit until Owen Caissie<\/a> and Graham Paulie had back-to-back doubles to begin the fifth, cutting it to 2-1. Leahy allowed one run on two hits with three walks in five innings.<\/p>\n

JoJo Romero<\/a> got four outs and Ryne Stanek<\/a> induced an inning-ending double play in the seventh. George Soriano<\/a> struck out two in a perfect eighth and Riley O\u2019Brien retired the side in order in the ninth for his 20th save in 24 opportunities.<\/p>\n

Phillips set down 12 in a row following Torres\u2019 homer until JJ Wetherholt<\/a> led off the sixth with a single. Iv\u00e1n Herrera grounded into a double play four pitches later and Alec Burleson<\/a> bounced out to end the inning. <\/p>\n

Burleson\u2019s 25-game on-base streak ended and Herrera\u2019s 22-game run was also stopped.<\/p>\n

Phillips allowed two runs and six hits in a season-high 7 1\/3 innings. He left in favor of Cade Gibson<\/a> with runners at the corners, and catcher Joe Mack<\/a> picked off Nathan Church<\/a> at third base before Gibson struck out Wetherholt on the next pitch to end the inning.<\/p>\n

The Cardinals (43-38) scored just three runs in the three-game series but avoided being swept by the Marlins at home for the first time in 30 years.<\/p>\n

Miami (44-40) is 18-6 in June \u2014 best in the majors \u2014 and has won seven of its last eight series.<\/p>\n
