For Montrealers, Canada Day is the second holiday in two weeks, but the list of what\u2019s open and closed is a little different than the week before.<\/a><\/p>\n

Whether you\u2019re schlepping your furniture from one apartment to another on Moving Day<\/a> or celebrating Confederation, here\u2019s a look at what\u2019s open and closed in Montreal on Canada Day.<\/p>\n

City services<\/p>\n

Garbage, recycling, compost and other waste collection will take place according to regular schedules, the city says, and Ecocentres will be open regular hours.<\/p>\n

Consignaction\u00a0recycling centres, which were closed for the F\u00eate nationale last week, will be open on Canada Day.<\/p>\n

City permit counters and Acc\u00e8s Montr\u00e9al offices, however, will be closed.<\/p>\n

Montreal\u2019s municipal court and its service counters will be closed, except for arraignments of people who are detained.<\/p>\n

Leisure and culture<\/p>\n

City pools and libraries have their own hours, which can vary from borough to borough, so the city suggests checking with individual facilities<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In general, libraries are closed on Wednesday, while pools are open \u2014 though they may be operating on holiday schedules.<\/p>\n

The Biblioth\u00e8que et Archives nationales du Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s Grande Biblioth\u00e8que is also closed.<\/p>\n

The Biod\u00f4me, Biosph\u00e8re, Montreal Botanical Garden, Insectarium and Planetarium will all be open.<\/p>\n

Amusement park La Ronde will be open.<\/p>\n

Shopping<\/p>\n

Most grocery stores, including PA, Metro, IGA and Maxi stores, will be open on Canada Day, but Costco and Walmart stores will be closed.<\/p>\n

Montreal\u2019s public markets \u2014 including Atwater Market, Jean-Talon Market and Maisonneuve Market, as well as neighbourhood markets \u2014 will be open.<\/p>\n

Pharmacies will also mostly be open, as will most d\u00e9panneurs.<\/p>\n

Most retail stores, however, will be closed. Large malls are also closed, though some restaurants attached to malls may remain open.<\/p>\n

SAQ stores will mostly be closed, though the liquor retailer\u2019s Express-branded stores and some other locations will be open.<\/p>\n

SQDC stores will be closed. <\/p>\n

Transportation<\/p>\n

STM buses and the m\u00e9tro will operate on a holiday schedule.<\/p>\n

The REM will operate on a Sunday schedule, with service beginning only at noon<\/a> because of planned work.<\/p>\n

The STL in Laval<\/a> and RTL in Longueuil<\/a> will operate on Saturday schedules.<\/p>\n

Exo commuter trains will operate on Sunday schedules, meaning no service on the Mont-St-Hilaire, Candiac and Mascouche lines. Exo buses, including Deux-Montagnes REM shuttles, will operate on Saturday schedules.<\/p>\n

Note that transit fare prices go up on Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n
