\nAn Edmonton school custodian has been charged with child sexual exploitation offences after an investigation by the ALERT Internet Child Exploitation unit.<\/p>\n
Crispolo (Cris) Comillas, 47, was arrested at his Edmonton home on June 18 with help from the Edmonton Police Service. At the time of his arrest, he worked as a custodian at Louis St. Laurent Catholic Junior\/Senior High School in south Edmonton.<\/p>\n
The investigation began about two months ago. It started after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children told ALERT that an unknown Alberta user was sharing child sexual exploitation material online.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe received information from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children that somebody had uploaded some media to the social media application Threads, which is a Meta app,\u201d said Corporeal Matthew Pepper with ALERT. \u201cThat led us, through different orders and search warrants and whatnot, to discover that the offender in this case was a janitor.\u201d<\/p>\n
The charges are related to online offences. Pepper said there is no sign any kids at the school were affected. But he said the job causes worries.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is very concerning,\u201d Pepper said. \u201cAs soon as we find out that the person works at a school, whether they\u2019re a teacher, custodian, or anything like that, we act immediately and action.\u201d<\/p>\n
Comilla has been charged with accessing and possessing child sexual exploitation materials. He was released on court imposed conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court on July 6.<\/p>\n
Forensic technicians are still analyzing devices seized from the home. Police ask anyone with information to contact local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
