For 18 seasons, star defensive end\u00a0Calais Campbell\u00a0has terrorized\u00a0NFL\u00a0offensive lines. The former second-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft has played for five different teams, made six Pro Bowl appearances, and could well be headed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

Sadly, on Wednesday morning, the news surrounding Campbell, who currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens, had nothing to do with his ability on the field.<\/p>\n

Instead, it centered on the death of his mother, Nateal Campbell, and the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding her passing.<\/p>\n

Calais Campbell\u2019s Brother Charged With Murder In His Mother Death<\/p>\n

Campbell\u2019s mother was found dead at her Buckhead home in Atlanta on Tuesday after a family member reportedly called police for a welfare check.<\/p>\n

According to Lt. Christopher Butler, the department had previously received calls to the location.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been some indications of possibly some mental health issues with an individual,\u201d Butler said via WSBTV.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday morning, Campbell\u2019s brother Ciarre was charged with murder in the death of his mother.<\/p>\n

Ciarre will be represented by defense attorney Jay Abt, who issued a statement to WSBTV.com.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe vigorously protest his innocence. We look forward to his day in court. I\u2019m honored to defend him and, most importantly, the Campbell family. I\u2019m asking on their behalf that the public respect their privacy at this time,\u201d defense attorney Jay Abt said of the charges.<\/p>\n

Calais Campbell Is Hailed As A Standup Individual<\/p>\n

Not only has Campbell had an incredible career on the field, but he\u2019s also made a huge impact on his community off of it.<\/p>\n

In 2019, he was named the NFL<\/a> Walter Payton Man of the Year for his work with the Charles Richard Campbell (CRC) Foundation<\/a>. The foundation, named after his late father, focuses on community activism and empowering the youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy goal when I give back is to inspire people; to encourage people to believe that dreams are achievable if you put the work in,\u201d Campbell said<\/a> after winning the award. \u201cEverybody, and I mean everybody, can give back. Wherever you are in your life. It doesn\u2019t matter where you are in your life. But reach back and help someone. It\u2019s our duty to help our neighbors.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if you can only give five minutes to someone in need, give it to them. That one-on-one quality time, that little bit of extra time can make a world of difference. Those five minutes can change a life. Walter Payton spent time with my coach, which, in turn, ended up having a strong impact on me. Walter Payton strived to have an impact on the world; we should all strive to be more like Walter Payton.\u201d<\/p>\n
