The Utah Mammoth have acquired center Vincent Trocheck<\/a> from the New York Rangers per Sportsnet\u2019s Elliotte Friedman<\/a>. The return will send defenseman Sean Durzi<\/a>, forward prospect Cole Beaudoin<\/a>, and a 2027 third-round pick per the New York Post\u2019s Mollie Walker<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Mammoth will win out on a trade sweepstakes that began early into the 2025-26 season. While Trocheck provided years of lineup reliability to the Rangers, the almost-33 year old seemed on the outside-looking-in as the team hid a playoff skid. After plenty of speculation around the Trade Deadline, a move will come to fruition in free agency, landing Utah a plug-and-play, middle-six center.<\/p>\n

Trocheck has stayed productive into his 30s. He scored 26 goals and 59 points in the 2024-25 campaign, then followed it with 16 goals and 53 points in 67 games this year. Trocheck also scored three assists in six games at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, where he took home a Gold Medal with Team USA. The veteran center hasn\u2019t been able to replicate the 25-goal, 77-point career-year he recorded with the Rangers in 2023-24 \u2013 the last time the club made the postseason. Still, he represents a reliable, core piece complimenting strong scoring with 20 minutes of average ice time, a 56.9 faceoff percentage, and a Rangers-leading 193 hits this season.<\/p>\n

The Mammoth will now add that veteran anchor to a young top-nine. Trocheck should compete for commendable minutes from the team\u2019s third-line, operating behind Logan Cooley<\/a> and Nick Schmaltz<\/a> on the depth chart. Meanwhile, his addition will raise questions about how the team plans to deploy Jack McBain<\/a>, Kevin Stenlund<\/a>, and Barrett Hayton<\/a>. Both McBain and Stenlund have recently signed contracts in Utah \u2013 a fact that could leave Hayton on the outside after scoring 25 points in 2025-26. While they may be forced to cut ties, Trocheck\u2019s addition behind Cooley and Schmaltz will upgrade Utah\u2019s center group to among the league\u2019s best, while Durzi\u2019s departure will create more room for prospects Maveric Lamoureux<\/a>\u00a0and Dmitriy Simashev<\/a>\u00a0in the NHL lineup.<\/p>\n

New York will also add a reliable lineup piece, bringing in Durzi to compete for second-pair minutes after scoring 27 points and averaging 19:16 in ice time through 60 games last season. Durzi missed the bulk of the 2024-25 season due to a shoulder injury sustained in the fourth game of the season. He finished the year with just 11 points in 30 games played \u2013 a far fall from the career-high 41 points he scored in the 2023-24 season.
