We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/andy-burnham\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Burnham<\/a> has announced he will keep the controversial<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/andy-burnham-economy-triple-lock-pensions-b3002042.html\" title=\"Andy Burnham advisers \u2018back scrapping triple lock\u2019\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> pensions triple lock <\/a>when he becomes prime minister. <\/p>\n<p>The PM-in-waiting has been under pressure from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/andy-burnham-economy-triple-lock-pensions-b3002042.html\" title=\"Andy Burnham advisers \u2018back scrapping triple lock\u2019\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">some of his own economic advisers<\/a> to ditch the scheme, which critics claim protects wealthy pensioners at the expense of the young. <\/p>\n<p>He said he appreciated there was a \u201clot of debate\u201d about the pledge said it was \u201cimportant that the commitment in the manifesto stands\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Labour\u2019s 2024 manifesto commits the party to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/triple-lock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">triple lock<\/a>, which protects the rate at which the state pension rises.<\/p>\n<p>In an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, he also ruled out an early election, said he saw scope for a better trade deal with the EU and chose the Martin Scorsese mob thriller Goodfellas among his favourite films.<\/p>\n<p>And he also received a question from the Tory leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/kemi-badenoch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kemi Badenoch<\/a>, who suggested he should \u201cface a proper press conference\u201d.
