Police say a driver who nearly hit a firefighter and struck a cruiser during a crash investigation in Brampton has been charged after the incident was caught on video.<\/p>\n
Peel Regional Police didn\u2019t say when the incident took place, but it happened at Sandalwood Parkway East and Kennedy Road while emergency crews were responding to a crash, Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said in a social media post on Friday.<\/p>\n
The video shows the driver of a blue Ford F-150 approach a Brampton Fire and Emergency Services fire engine and swerve to avoid hitting a firefighter. The vehicle then slams into a Peel police cruiser.<\/p>\n
And while the male driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with officers, Bell-Morena said the man has been charged with careless driving and \u201chas to talk to a judge and explain what was going through his mind and why he did what he did.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSurprisingly, he wasn\u2019t drunk. And it doesn\u2019t appear that he intended to hurt anybody here, but this is some pretty scary stuff, and it\u2019s inexcusable,\u201d Bell-Morena said. \u201cAbsolutely no reason that this happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
He called the crash \u201ctoo close for comfort,\u201d and urged drivers to pay attention and slow down when approaching emergency scenes.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur first-responders\u2019 lives depend on it,\u201d Bell-Morena said.<\/p>\n
