Led by Abdullah Mason the mighty Mason brothers will be performing in their hometown
Cleveland, Ohio. It\u2019s been a dream of theirs.<\/p>\n
\u201cMe and my brothers in the city of Cleveland, we are putting on for the city. We are
making sure that everything we do is big,\u201d said Abdullah Mason. \u201cThere is going to be a
lot of smoke\u2026we\u2019ll call this one a cookout.\u201d<\/p>\n
Three out of five Mason brothers are in action with Abdullah Mason (20-0, 17 Kos)
defending the WBO lightweight title against undefeated Albert Bell (28-0, 9 Kos) on
Saturday July 4, at Wolstein Center. DAZN and TNT will stream and televise the Top
Rank card.<\/p>\n
The hard-hitting southpaw Mason was scheduled to face Welshman Joe Cordina, but
after incurring assault charges the U.S. government denied him a visa.<\/p>\n
\u201cA couple of days back, I went to the U.S. Embassy in London and they basically denied
me a visa,\u201d said Cordina on social media.<\/p>\n
So now, Bell has replaced two-division champion Cordina and instead of United
Kingdom versus U.S.A. we have Cleveland versus Toledo. Bell hails from Toledo, Ohio.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t really have thoughts on fighting Abdullah, especially no time soon. Everything
made sense,\u201d Bell told DAZN. \u201cSo I talked to my pops about it. Talked to the Masons
and stepped in and saved the card, get my world title opportunity, and put on a show for
all of Ohio.<\/p>\n
The show must go on, said Mason<\/p>\n
\u201cMy main thing is being mentally focused, being mentally locked in,\u201d Mason said about
the change of opponent. \u201cWe still got a fight on the fourth.\u201d<\/p>\n
If you know anything about fighting brothers like the Masons, the Davis (Keyshawn)
brothers or the Smith (Liam) brothers of Liverpool, England, they have their own natural
sparring mates beginning as infants. Not all can make elite status but they help each
other.<\/p>\n
Brothers Ibrahim Mason and Abdurrahman Mason are scheduled to fight in separate
four-round bouts.<\/p>\n
Another world title contest features Bruce \u201cShuShu\u201d Carrington (17-0, 10 Kos)
defending the WBO featherweight title against Mexico\u2019s Rene Palacios (19-0-1, 10
Kos). This is his first defense of the title he won last January in a crackling knockout win
at Madison Square Garden over another Mexican fighter Carlos Castro.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like this is one of those things to show people why I am a champion,\u201d said
Carrington. \u201cEven though I have this title, a real champion is someone who can defend
it successfully.\u201d<\/p>\n
If Mason wins, where does he go next?<\/p>\n
Top Rank has a number of lightweight champions including IBF titlist Raymond
Muratalla who fights later in the month in Las Vegas against Robson Conceicao and if
anyone deigns to move up five pounds there is super lightweight Keyshawn Davis.<\/p>\n
Imagine if it were brothers Mason versus brothers Davis. It could be a family feud.<\/p>\n
Las Vegas Zuffa<\/p>\n
Last Sunday Zuffa put on a show that featured two carry-overs from 360 Boxing
Promotions. Both were successful.<\/p>\n
Cain \u201cSugar\u201d Sandoval (18-1, 15 Kos) out-dueled Brandun Lee (30-1, 23 Kos) in a
blistering 10 round welterweight war that had fans talking all this week. Sandoval has a
reputation of putting on Bobby Chacon-type wars whenever he steps in the boxing ring.
His last fight six months ago against Julian Rodriguez was a candidate for Fight of the
Year. The Sacramento fighter is earning \u201cmust-see\u201d status.<\/p>\n
In a companion fight Omar Trinidad (21-0-2, 14 Kos) remained undefeated by
unanimous decision over former world champion Jerwin Ancajas (38-5-2, 25 Kos) after
10 rounds in a featherweight showdown.<\/p>\n
Trinidad fights out of East L.A. and at 30 is gunning for a world title fight.<\/p>\n
Speaking of the 360 and Zuffa connection, Caleb Walsh (16-0, 11 Kos) is preparing to
fight Tyler Denny (21-4-3) at Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 8. Also, another Irishman who
trains in Southern California is slated on the same card in Aaron McKenna (20-0, 10
Kos) fighting Etinosa Oliha (22-0) in a 12-round bout for the vacant IBF middleweight
title.<\/p>\n
McKenna has already stated on social media he would be favorable to a Walsh-
McKenna clash if both win.<\/p>\n
Dueling Shows in SoCal<\/p>\n
July 18 will feature competing boxing shows on the same day.<\/p>\n
First, WBC super flyweight titlist Adelaida Ruiz defends the title against Ginny Fuchs on
Saturday July 18, at the Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino. ProBox.TV will
stream the card.<\/p>\n
Fuchs gave Ruiz the only loss on her resume and this rematch gives the two fighters
extensive coverage as the main event. It should be a doozy. Their first encounter was a
Fight of the Year candidate.<\/p>\n
Seventy-one miles west in Carson, Calif. a Matchroom Boxing show features Diego
Pacheco (25-0, 18 Kos) against Immanuwel Aleem (22-4-3) in a super middleweight
main event at Dignity Health Sports Park. DAZN will stream the boxing card.<\/p>\n
Also, Cuban Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz is scheduled to fight.<\/p>\n
