{"id":779078,"date":"2026-07-04T04:30:33","date_gmt":"2026-07-04T04:30:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/779078\/"},"modified":"2026-07-04T04:30:33","modified_gmt":"2026-07-04T04:30:33","slug":"mcmurtry-speirling-pure-revealed-as-affordable-way-to-reach-f1-speeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/779078\/","title":{"rendered":"McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling Pure revealed as \u2018affordable\u2019 way to reach F1 speeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                    <img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/mcmurtry-speirling-pure-1.jpg\" alt=\"McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling Pure revealed as \u2018affordable\u2019 way to reach F1 speeds\" class=\"gh-post-page__image\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Just under five years on from making its global debut in prototype form, the McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling has been unveiled in its Pure production guise, though numbers are limited.<\/p>\n<p>Currently the record holder up the famed Goodwood Hillclimb and around the former Top Gear test track, the Sp\u00e9irling Pure is a track-only, battery-powered single-seater, capable of not only outrunning hypercars but most race vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Fed by a huge 100kWh lithium-ion battery pack, it supplies power to the pair of rear electric motors to help put almost 750kW to the ground, propelling it from 0-60mph (97km\/h) in just 1.55 seconds (including a 30cm rollout).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/mcmurtry-speirling-pure-3.jpg\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s also able to hit up to 305km\/h, its pure straight-line speed isn\u2019t the party trick, with a fan underneath its body pulling the Sp\u00e9irling to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>McMurtry claims that even at a standstill it can generate up to 2000kg of downforce, significantly more than the circa-1350kg kerb weight of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>With Michelin slick tyres underneath it, the Sp\u00e9irling can generate up to 3g under braking and cornering, getting close to the figures achieved by Formula 1 cars.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/mcmurtry-speirling-pure-4.jpg\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Measuring just 3815mm long, 1795mm wide and 1056mm tall, it\u2019s a diminutive thing, while its 2200mm wheelbase is also comparatively tiny.<\/p>\n<p>According to McMurtry, there are a few key differences between the production-ready Sp\u00e9irling Pure and the prototypes which have been setting records.<\/p>\n<p>The prototype weighed 1050kg (300kg lighter), had a 2000mm wheelbase (200mm shorter), was fitted with a 60kWh battery (40kWh smaller), and had \u201cslightly smaller slick tyres\u201d. Despite this, it says the Pure\u2019s lap times \u201care anticipated to be very similar to the prototypes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/mcmurtry-speirling-pure-2.jpg\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>There are drawbacks to the Sp\u00e9irling Pure, with McMurtry saying it can run for between 40km to 50km at the pace of an LMP2 race car.
