Stephen Colbert, get behind us. CBS is canceling The Late Show<\/a> following the 2025\u20132026 season with its last show being in May of next year. \u201cIt\u2019s not just the end of our show, but it\u2019s the end of The Late Show on CBS. I\u2019m not being replaced,\u201d Colbert said on his July 17 episode, in a clip now uploaded to Instagram<\/a>. \u201cThis is all going away.\u201d CBS said the cancellation \u201cis purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night,\u201d in a July 17 statement. Colbert recently called out the parent company of CBS, Paramount, for giving Donald Trump a \u201cbig fat bribe\u201d to settle Trump\u2019s lawsuit against 60 Minutes. Paramount is currently being sold to the Ellisons and Skydance and needs FCC approval for the deal to go through. Several CBS productions have felt the fallout, including\u00a0the resignation of longtime 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens<\/a>.<\/p>\n Donald Trump himself celebrated Colbert being canceled on Truth Social. \u201cI absolutely love that Colbert got fired,\u201d he wrote. \u201cHis talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.\u201d Below, find responses from Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Bowen Yang to Colbert\u2019s Late Show getting canceled.<\/p>\n Conan O\u2019Brien, king of getting screwed over by the network, has seen the writing on the wall for a while. Speaking at his induction into the Television Academy Hall of Fame, O\u2019Brien acknowledged the seemingly inevitable end of late night TV. \u201cYes, late-night television as we have known it since around 1950 is going to disappear. But those voices are not going anywhere,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cPeople like Stephen Colbert are too talented and too essential to go away. It\u2019s not gonna happen.\u201d Hopefully O\u2019Brien can help Colbert pivot to travel shows and a podcasting empire.<\/p>\n The former Late Night host shamed<\/a> Paramount and CBS for the \u201cgutless\u201d and \u201cpure cowardice\u201d decision to cancel Colbert. \u201cI think it\u2019s sad, but what this indicates also is [David Ellison, future Paramount CEO doesn\u2019t] want any trouble along the lines of freedom of the press or free speech or freedom of expression,\u201d Letterman suspicted. \u201cThey don\u2019t want to get their hands dirty; they don\u2019t want the government going after them.\u201d<\/p>\n While guesting on The Late Show<\/a>, Sandra Oh quoted Mercutio when venting her ire against Paramount and CBS. \u201cA plague on both of your houses,\u201d she said. Freestyling a little, she added, \u201cAnd also, a pox on all those they serve.\u201d Colbert partially disavowed Oh\u2019s bombastic remarks, looking to camera and saying to Paramount and CBS, \u201cI think you\u2019ve been great partners.\u201d<\/p>\n Hours after their deal with Paramount Global<\/a> went through, the creators of South Park poked fun at their\/Colbert\u2019s corporate overlords. In the season premiere, \u201cSermon on the \u2019Mount\u201d (short for Paramount, get it?), Jesus urges the people of South Park to do whatever Trump says. \u201cYou really wanna end up like Colbert?\u201d he says<\/a>. \u201cYou guys gotta stop being stupid. Just shut up or we\u2019re going to get canceled.\u201d<\/p>\n John Oliver said the news of The Late Show\u2019s cancellation was \u201cvery, very, very sad\u201d while being interviewed at a minor-league baseball game<\/a> (he was giving out Moon Pies<\/a> there). \u201cI love Stephen, I love his staff. I love that show, it\u2019s incredibly sad,\u201d he said. Oliver said late night still means a lot to him, as \u201ceven growing up in England, I would watch Letterman\u2019s show, which of course was Stephen\u2019s show, and think about what a glamorous world that was.\u201d Oliver added that he is \u201cpartly excited to see what they\u2019re gonna do for the next ten months.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m just as shocked as everyone,\u201d Jimmy Fallon shared<\/a> on Instagram on July 18. \u201cStephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I\u2019d ride this out with him for years to come. I\u2019m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30. But honestly, he\u2019s really been a gentleman and a true friend over the years, going back to\u00a0The Colbert Report, and I\u2019m sure whatever he does next will be just as brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n Jimmy Kimmel lambasted CBS on Instagram on July 17. \u201cLove you Stephen,\u201d Colbert\u2019s fellow late-nighter and Strike Force Five<\/a> co-host wrote on his Instagram Story following the news. \u201cFuck you and all your Sheldons CBS.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSorry to hear @CBS<\/a> is canceling one of the best shows they have,\u201d Ben Stiller posted on X on July 17. \u201cWishing all the people who work so hard on that show all the best.\u201d<\/p>\n The author was in disbelief hearing the news, simply writing<\/a>, \u201cColbert canceled? Please tell me it\u2019s a joke.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cCBS canceled Colbert\u2019s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump \u2014 a deal that looks like bribery,\u201d Senator Elizabeth Warren wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cAmerica deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cLove you Stephen,\u201d Severance actor Adam Scott wrote in the comments of Colbert\u2019s Instagram clip. \u201cThis is absolute bullshit, and I for one am looking forward to the next 10 months of shows.\u201d<\/p>\n Jon Batiste, the show\u2019s former bandleader, called Colbert \u201cthe greatest to ever do it\u201d via Instagram comments.<\/p>\n On the Las Culturistas Culture Awards red carpet, co-host Bowen Yang told iHeartRadio<\/a>, \u201cI don\u2019t think so, honey, CBS canceling The Late Show \u2014 it\u2019s so tragic.
