Jessica Pegula has been utterly dominant against fellow Americans this year.<\/p>\n
After defeating 18-year-old Iva Jovic in the Round of 16 to advance to her second-career Wimbledon quarterfinal, Pegula’s record against countrywomen in 2026 improved to 8-0.<\/p>\n
After dropping the first set 4-6, the 32-year-old veteran showed why she is a top-ten player, winning the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-1 respectively.<\/p>\n
Pegula has never gone beyond the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in singles, last making the final eight in 2023.<\/p>\n
The American will take on the winner of Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic, and USA’s Coco Gauff in the next round.<\/p>\n
In other Round of 16 action, Czechia’s Karolina Muchova took down fellow Czech
Barbora Krejcikova 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.<\/p>\n
It is Muchova’s third singles quarterfinals berth at Wimbledon, which is the farthest she has gone at the tournament. Her last Wimbledon quarterfinal appearance was in 2021.<\/p>\n
Muchova’s win also means that there will be a new women\u2019s champion at Wimbledon for the ninth straight time. Krejcikova, the 2024 winner, was the only former champion left in the women\u2019s draw after Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina and\u00a0Serena Williams\u00a0all went out earlier.<\/p>\n
Muchova will take on the winner of Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka.<\/p>\n
