{"id":78243,"date":"2025-08-18T08:17:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T08:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/78243\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T08:17:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T08:17:09","slug":"vernon-b-c-lifts-tactical-evacuation-order-caused-by-out-of-control-wildfire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/78243\/","title":{"rendered":"Vernon, B.C., lifts tactical evacuation order caused by out-of-control wildfire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Vernon has lifted an evacuation order for about 20 properties prompted by a wildfire Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Boltres Creek wildfire is stable and no longer showing growth,&#8221; said the city&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vernon.ca\/alerts\/boltres-creek-wildfire-vicinity-vernon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">online update on the fire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Vernon lifted the evacuation order for properties on Commonage Road from Rose&#8217;s Pond to the Allan Brookes Nature Centre around 6:30 p.m. PT Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The five-kilometre stretch of road is located\u00a0a few kilometres south of the city centre.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fire, off Highway 97, grew to\u00a0103 hectares (1.03 square kilometres) before 6 p.m. PT Sunday, and is still classified as out of control,\u00a0according to the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fire has been downgraded from rank 2 and 3 to a rank 1 smouldering ground fire.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Crews have been making good progress on the site,&#8221; said BCWS fire information officer Taylor Wallace.<\/p>\n<p>The BCWS said 17 firefighting personnel responded to the Boltres Creek wildfire along with three helicopters using\u00a0Kalamalka Lake as a water source.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Smoke billows up from a wildfire on a hill\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/wildfire-near-vernon-bc-2.jpg\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.7933130699088147\" data-cy=\"image-img\"\/>Smoke billows up from a wildfire growing near Vernon, B.C., on Sunday afternoon. (Jeff Heywood)<\/p>\n<p>The wildfire service asked\u00a0the public to give the firefighters room to work and said anyone out on the lake should quickly move out of the way of skimmers.<\/p>\n<p>Ground crews will remain on scene throughout the night, according to a statement from the city.<\/p>\n<p>The fire is suspected to be human-caused, said\u00a0BCWS, which is how any wildfire not sparked by lightning is categorized.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers on Highway 97 were told to expect delays due to the wildfire.
