<\/p>\nINDIANA (WSBT) \u2014 Starting Monday, July 6th, law enforcement officers from all across Indiana will trade in their patrol cars for bicycles, all in support of survivors of fallen heroes who’ve died in the line of duty.<\/p>\n
This year marks the 25th annual charity event “Cops Cycling for Survivors” as they embark on a 13-day journey across the state, with each cyclist required to fundraise for the ride.<\/p>\n
But it’s not about speed — it’s about solidarity.<\/p>\n

It’s not just a name on the wall, it’s an actual human being. Those survivors, they deal with it on a daily basis, and we’re just here to support them,” said Sgt. Justin Reeder with the Porter County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n
The ride starts in Indianapolis and will touch all four corners of the state during the nearly 1,000-mile journey.<\/p>\n
And along the route, cyclists will stop in communities to meet with families and share their stories.<\/p>\n
The cyclists are followed by a support truck, which displays the faces and stories of more than 500 Indiana officers who died in the line of duty.<\/p>\n
This year, the organization is honoring Reserve Deputy Sheriff John Stahl of Jefferson County’s Sheriff\u2019s Office and Corporal Blake Reynolds of Delaware County’s Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

“We forge on the bikes with our fellow riders as well as survivors; we have some survivors that ride with us, and you’re forging that bond,” said Sgt. Reeder.<\/p>\n

I grew up in law enforcement with my father being a retired officer. There are some people on the wall that I considered to be my uncles, one in particular, and passed away actually while I was doing this ride during my tenure. So it’s become more real, you know, having someone with that personal close connection that I looked up to growing up,” said Sgt. Reeder.<\/p>\n
