MOUNT HOREB, Wis. (WMTV) – A century of history is being celebrated at Norsk Golf Club in Mount Horeb as a new fundraising campaign looks to support the course\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
The nonprofit Friends of Norsk is aiming to raise $300,000 to preserve and improve the nine-hole public course and its clubhouse. The group has operated Norsk for the past 10 years after the course was sold to the Village of Mount Horeb. In the past decade, the Friends have invested more than $1 million into the course. <\/p>\n
Organizers say the course has long served as a cornerstone for the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmerica just celebrated our 250th; well this course has been here for a hundred.\u201d said Craig Enzenroth, vice president and treasurer of Friends of Norsk. \u201cSo it\u2019s a great community asset. It\u2019s great green space right in the heart of the community, and therefore I think that\u2019s why its endured.\u201d<\/p>\n
Friends of Norsk board member Paul Wittmann said the course supports programming and events that reach beyond regular play.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got an amazing junior program here that\u2019s grown considerably over the years,\u201d Wittmann said. \u201cWe host a lot of different events here. The golf team \u2014 our Mount Horeb high school golf team \u2014 boys and girls compete here.\u201d<\/p>\n
The nonprofit says course usage has more than doubled to 19,000 rounds over the past decade, and the youth golf program continues to grow year after year. <\/p>\n
