Astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who voyaged around the moon in April, is retiring from the astronaut corps at the Canadian Space Agency.<\/p>\n

“This September, after 32 years of military service and 17 years as a Canadian Space Agency astronaut \u2014 culminating in the incredible privilege of flying around the Moon on Artemis II \u2014 I will be transitioning from my full-time role at the CSA.<\/p>\n
“This is far from a departure. My commitment to seeing Canada thrive remains absolute. To ensure continuity in this mission, the Royal Canadian Air Force is enabling my transition into a Reservist role. This unique position is a deliberate launchpad designed to leave the door open for creative, ongoing ways to support and enable the vital work happening in Canada with respect to space, and I’m excited for the new challenges it will bring.”<\/p>\n
Hansen was recruited in 2009 along with David Saint-Jacques and graduated from astronaut candidate training in 2011. He has worked at NASA mission control and trained rigorously in the years ahead of Artemis II.<\/p>\n

Upon reflection on the Artemis II mission, Hansen told CBC News that there were a lot of things that he enjoyed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere’s a list of visuals [and] the physical experiences, riding the rocket uphill and coming down in the capsule, they’re all so cool,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But he added, \u201cThe human experience is what tops it, though.”<\/p>\n
Melanie Joly, minister of industry and minister responsible for economic development for Quebec regions, celebrated Hansen’s achievements. <\/p>\n
