What the province is saying about disaster relief<\/p>\n
CBC News reached out to the Ontario government after local politicians called on the province to hook Ottawa residents up with DRAO (Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians) financial support.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s what the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing said in an email reply just a half hour ago:\u00a0<\/p>\n
“The province is currently assessing the situation in Ottawa.<\/p>\n
“Once the assessment is finalized, the DRAO program may be activated in areas where there is costly and widespread damage to homes or small businesses. When the program is activated, a news bulletin is issued, and details are posted on the DRAO website. Residents have approximately four months to apply from when the program is activated. Affected residents are encouraged to document all damage and retain photos, receipts, and records of clean-up and repair costs.
