Two wildfires have broken out at separate Surrey nature reserves within hours.<\/p>\n
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service posted on social media, external<\/a> that it was called to a fire at Whitmoor Common, near Guildford, at about 14:25 BST on Monday – days after fire crews were called to a separate blaze at the same nature reserve. <\/p>\n It then said crew were dealing with another wildfire at Brentmoor Heath near West End in Lightwater at about 02:30 on Tuesday. <\/p>\n Four fire engines and multiple specialist vehicles were sent to the the fire, which covered four hectares, but have now left the scene.<\/p>\n Three fire engines, a water carrier and specialist wildfire vehicles were sent to the Whitmoor Common scene, where the blaze covered an area of about 50m by 60m. <\/p>\n Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said they still had one fire appliance and crew at the scene on Tuesday morning “as some hotspots were present at a re-inspection”.<\/p>\n The 166-hectare Site of Special Scientific Interest, was also affected by a wildfire last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ten fire appliances were sent to that incident, which prompted warnings about the risk of wildfires during hot and dry weather.<\/p>\n Firefighters remain at the scene of the latest blaze.<\/p>\n People living nearby have been advised to keep windows and doors closed, while members of the public are also being urged to avoid the area. <\/p>\n Follow BBC Surrey on Facebook, external<\/a>, X, external<\/a>, and on Instagram, external<\/a> and listen to BBC Radio Surrey on Sounds<\/a>.
