{"id":786842,"date":"2026-07-07T21:03:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T21:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/786842\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T21:03:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T21:03:09","slug":"air-canada-updates-winter-schedule-plans-fewer-u-s-flights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/786842\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Canada updates winter schedule, plans fewer U.S. flights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Air Canada has dropped or will delay the start of several routes connecting Montreal to the United States, according to an update of the airline\u2019s winter schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The update means that flights to New York\u2019s John F. Kennedy International Airport, which were <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/news\/air-canada-suspends-flights-to-jfk-including-daily-route-from-montreal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">suspended on June 1<\/a>, will not resume this winter.<\/p>\n<p>Those flights had been scheduled to return Oct. 25.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAir Canada regularly reviews its schedule to ensure capacity is aligned with customer demand and seasonal travel patterns. As part of that process, we have made some adjustments to our winter schedule on select routes,\u201d the airline said in an emailed statement.<\/p>\n<p>The airline says that while it will not resume flights to JKF this winter, it plans to return to the airport in the future and that it is increasing service to New York\u2019s LaGuardia Airport from Toronto\u2019s Billy Bishop Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Other Quebec routes that will be affected by the changes are seasonal flights from Montreal to Palm Beach and Quebec City to Orlando, which were scheduled to begin operating in October and will now start in December.<\/p>\n<p>The airline said it is adjusting the start dates of those routes \u201cso they resume closer to peak winter travel periods, again, better matching projected demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Routes connecting Montreal to Detroit and Minneapolis will end service Oct. 24. They had originally been scheduled to continue operating all winter.<\/p>\n<p>The airline also said it didn\u2019t operate those routes last winter.<\/p>\n<p>The changes come as travel to the United States by Canadians remains more than 25 per cent below 2024 levels, according to Statistics Canada data.<\/p>\n<p>They also follow a <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/news\/some-canadian-airlines-looking-at-price-increases-as-jet-fuel-costs-rise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">spike in jet fuel prices<\/a> that pushed airlines to suspend certain routes and increase prices.<\/p>\n<p>Although fuel prices have come down since they almost doubled following the beginning of the U.S. and Israeli war on Iran, the International Air Transport Association said that as of early July, jet fuel prices were more than 30 per cent higher than in July 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Air Canada has dropped or will delay the start of several routes connecting Montreal to the United States,&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":786843,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[49,48,225029,44],"class_list":["post-786842","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-canada","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-montreal-pierre-elliott-trudeau-airport","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/786842","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=786842"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/786842\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/786843"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=786842"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=786842"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=786842"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
