Dolly Parton announced she\u2019s heading to Broadway for her production, \u201cDolly: A True Original Musical,\u201d after giving a \u201cbad\u201d health update.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow, this isn\u2019t about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside,\u201d the country singer, who won\u2019t be performing in the show, said via an Instagram video<\/a> Tuesday.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s about where I really come from, what I\u2019ve lived, what I\u2019ve lost, what I\u2019ve loved, and how I\u2019ve found my way.\u201d<\/p>\n Dolly Parton (seen above) announced that her production \u201cDolly: A True Original Musical\u201d is heading to Broadway. Dolly Parton\/Instagram<\/p>\n Parton, 80, shared that the musical will be told in her \u201cown words and through the music that\u2019s been part of [her] every step of the journey.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201c9 to 5\u201d songstress teased that she\u2019s writing up new hits for the production and that some of her beloved tracks will also be performed.<\/p>\n \u201cThis really is a dream come true,\u201d she added. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to share it with all of you.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s about where I really come from, what I\u2019ve lived, what I\u2019ve lost, what I\u2019ve loved, and how I\u2019ve found my way,\u201d she said. Dolly Parton\/Instagram<\/p>\n Parton explained the musical would consist of her own storytelling. Dolly Parton\/Instagram<\/p>\n Parton\u2019s highly anticipated show, directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, kicks off in New York City<\/a> with previews this December and opens on Jan. 19, 2027, which is her birthday. Pre-sale ticket access starts on Wednesday.<\/p>\n According to the musical\u2019s website, the production will feature the hitmaker\u2019s greatest hits, including \u201cJolene,\u201d \u201cI Will Always Love You,\u201d \u201c9 to 5\u201d and \u201cCoat of Many Colors.\u201d<\/p>\n The musical first debuted in Nashville last year, and has since undergone changes.<\/p>\n However, the hitmaker (seen here in June 2024) won\u2019t be performing. Tammie\/AFF-USA\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n Parton\u2019s recent career move comes a few months after she announced the cancellation<\/a> of\u00a0\u201cDolly: Live in Las Vegas\u201d residency due to ongoing health issues after initially postponing the six shows<\/a> last year. <\/p>\n \u201cI have some good news and a little bad news,\u201d\u00a0she said in a social media video in May. \u201cThe good news is I\u2019m responding really well to meds and treatments and I\u2019m improving every day.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cHere You Come Again\u201d singer \u00a0explained that the \u201cbad news\u201d was that \u201cit\u2019s gonna take a little while\u201d until she is \u201cup to stage performance level.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis really is a dream come true,\u201d the \u201c9 to 5\u201d singer (seen here in January 2025) said.
