The 2027 Formula 1 calendar<\/a> could feature a total of 34 races as the championship is poised to add yet more sprint events.<\/p>\n

While the roster of grands prix is expected to remain at 24, F1 is set to increase the number of sprint rounds from six to as many as 10.<\/p>\n

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali told Sky an announcement on next year\u2019s schedule is imminent.<\/p>\n

Increasing the number of sprint events \u201cis the way to go\u201d said Domenicali. \u201cWe are [in] the process of announcing the bigger number for the future and this will come when we announce the calendar very, very soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

F1 introduced sprint races five years ago. The series has consistently claimed their popularity among fans is much greater than the more divided reception evident from reactions to races online. Domenicali claimed some had been \u201csceptical\u201d about the format but insisted they had been won over to it, pointing to the number of people who spectated at last weekend\u2019s British Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

Several changes have already been confirmed for next year\u2019s calendar. The Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, which will hold a sprint event for the first time this year, will not return. Spain will also revert to holding a single round as F1 will not visit the Circuit de Catalunya<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Instead F1 will return to two venues it last visited in 2021: Istanbul Park<\/a> in Turkey and the Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal. The Bahrain and Saudi Arabian grands prix, which were scheduled to take place this year but cancelled due to the effects of the war in Iran, are also due to return.<\/p>\n
