\n\tAfter being removed from Universal\u2019s theatrical calendar<\/a> late last year, the \u201cM3GAN<\/a>\u201d AI robot spinoff \u201cSoulm8te<\/a>\u201d is moving forward as a straight-to-digital release. It will be available to rent on digital platforms starting August 1 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe erotic thriller features a technological twist. According to the film\u2019s synopsis, \u201cSoulm8te\u201d \u201cfollows a grieving engineer tasked with testing a ruthless tech giant\u2019s new artificially intelligent android. But when he attempts to program her to be a truly sentient soulmate, she develops needs of her own \u2014 unleashing a relentless spree of precision-engineered mayhem.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cM3GAN,\u201d the original sci-fi horror film was a major success after it hit theaters in 2023, accumulating more than $181 million <\/a>worldwide at the box office. But its sequel, \u201cM3GAN 2.0,\u201d didn\u2019t gross nearly as much as the first film, as it brought in $10 million domestically<\/a> in its opening last June and ended its theatrical run with just $39 million worldwide.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe cast includes Lily Sullivan, David Rysdahl, Claudia Doumit and Arty Froushan. Kate Dolan (\u201cYou Are Not My Mother\u201d) directed \u201cSoulm8te\u201d with the story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan. In a statement announcing the film<\/a>, Dolan said it is meant to be an \u201cexploration of relationships and loneliness.\u201d She added, \u201cDespite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWan and Jason Blum produce \u201cSoulm8te,\u201d while Michael Clear and Judson Scott (of Wan\u2019s Atomic Monster<\/a> banner) executive produce, along with Bisu. Alayna Glasthal oversaw the project on behalf of Atomic Monster.<\/p>\n
