The complete list of contenders for the 2026 Emmys<\/a> were unveiled Wednesday morning, kicking off the race for television’s biggest honors. Liza Col\u00f3n-Zayas (The Bear) and Jeff Hiller (Somebody Somewhere) \u2014 both previous Emmy winners \u2014 announced the nominations live<\/a> from the Television Academy’s Wolf Theatre.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The first nominations for the 2026 Emmys<\/a> were revealed on NBC’s Today show on Wednesday morning. The network’s reality hit The Traitors received its third nomination for Best Reality Competition Series alongside Dancing With the Stars, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Survivor, and Top Chef. The Alan Cumming-hosted series has won that category for the past two years running, and looks to add a third statuette to its shelf.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, NBC’s Saturday Night Live received its latest nomination for Best Variety Series for its 51st season. The late night institution hopes to increase its overall Emmy count to a record 114 wins<\/a>, but has formidable competition from the final season of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, which exited stage left in May with a star-studded series finale<\/a>. Per the new TV Academy rules<\/a>, this category is juried \u2014 a panel will decide the merits of each show individually \u2014 meaning that there could be multiple winners.<\/p>\n

This season, the Emmy Awards mark their 78th anniversary. What began as a modest ceremony with five awards at the Hollywood Athletic Club has evolved into television’s biggest night, celebrating excellence throughout the industry. A total of 555 series were submitted across the 14 major program categories for the 2026 Emmy Awards (down from 600 last year), recognizing the writers, directors, performers, and all the artisans who worked on television and streaming programs in the past year.<\/p>\n

Last year’s big Emmy winners were HBO Max’s The Pitt<\/a> for Best Drama Series, Apple TV’s The Studio for Best Comedy Series, and Netflix’s Adolescence as Best Limited Series.
