A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on the surgical unit at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail.<\/p>\n
Interior Health\u2019s active facility outbreaks list shows the respiratory infection outbreak was declared July 6.<\/p>\n
The Trail Times has asked Interior Health for more information about the outbreak, including the number of confirmed cases and any visitor restrictions.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and is spread primarily from person to person.<\/p>\n
According to Interior Health, most people who contract the virus experience mild to moderate illness and do not require hospital care, although some people are more likely to become seriously ill and require medical attention.<\/p>\n
Interior Health says vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent severe illness and other serious outcomes from COVID-19.<\/p>\n
During a hospital outbreak, infection prevention and control measures may include enhanced cleaning and disinfection, the use of personal protective equipment, visitor restrictions and other measures aimed at limiting the spread of illness.<\/p>\n
Interior Health advises members of the public not to visit patients if they are feeling unwell or have recently been in contact with someone who is ill.<\/p>\n
The health authority\u2019s website maintains an updated list of active outbreaks at hospitals and long-term care facilities.
