That became very\u00a0apparent in a recent conversation Hathaway had with Josh Horowitz\u2019s\u00a0Happy Sad Confused\u00a0podcast, where she admits she spent the first two hours of her professional relationship with Nolan assuming she was auditioning for the part of Harley Quinn in, uh, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/the-dark-knight-rises-1798173519\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Dark Knight Rises<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\ufeff<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought that I\u2019d gamed it out, because I was just like, \u2018It can\u2019t be Catwoman, because Michelle Pfeiffer was so iconic,\u201d Hathaway said of her past predictive abilities. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be Harley Quinn!\u201d She says she spent a week \u201cdeveloping demonic Harley Quinn energy\u201d ahead of talking to Nolan, who apparently likes a long chat with actors before getting down to brass tacks about a project. \u201cAnd then, about two hours into our conversation, Chris is like, \u2018So, the part\u2019s Catwoman,\u2019\u201d at which point, Hathaway says she executed a full-bore personality shift, \u201cLike a psychopath. I changed personalities like a psychopath.\u201d (Hathaway\u2019s Odyssey co-star Tom Holland helpfully chimes in at this point to note \u201cOr like Harley Quinn!\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>Hathaway can be forgiven for thinking Nolan might have gone the Harley route, given how few female antagonists Batman\u2019s rogue gallery features. (Poison Ivy is presumably too fantastical to work in Nolan\u2019s grounded Dark Knight\u00a0universe, while\u00a0Rises\u00a0ended up going with takes on Catwoman and the lesser-known Talia al Ghul.)
