Arsenal are ready to step up their interest in Bruno Guimar\u00e3es, after the Brazil midfielder informed \u00adNewcastle that he wants to join the Premier\u00a0League champions.<\/p>\n
Guimar\u00e3es, who missed a penalty in Brazil\u2019s defeat against Norway in the last 16<\/a> of the World Cup on Sunday, is understood to have his heart set on a move to north London after Arsenal held talks with his representa\u00adtives last month. Newcastle have yet to receive any contact from Arsenal but they are believed to be preparing an offer in the region of \u00a360m.<\/p>\n Having sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona<\/a> and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham<\/a> this summer, Newcastle are reluctant to allow their club captain to also depart. Guimar\u00e3es still has two years of his contract remaining with the north-east club, who are poised to complete the signing of Sean Steur from Ajax<\/a> as a replacement for Tonali, retaining the option of extending that by a year. But Newcastle are understandably keen to avoid a repeat of the protracted saga last summer that led eventually to \u00adAlexander Isak joining Liverpool<\/a>.<\/p>\n Arsenal want to bolster their options in midfield, partly because of concerns over Declan Rice\u2019s long\u2011term fitness, with the Morocco teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi of Lille and Bournemouth\u2019s Alex Scott understood to be alternatives to \u00adGuimar\u00e3es. Christian N\u00f8rgaard, who started only one Premier League game last season after joining from Brentford, could be allowed to depart.<\/p>\n Arsenal are also looking to strengthen their attack this summer and have made Aston Villa\u2019s Morgan Rogers their No\u00a01 target. Villa are thought to want more than \u00a3100m for the England midfielder. Atl\u00e9tico Madrid\u2019s Juli\u00e1n Alvarez is another option, although the Argentina \u00adforward would prefer to join Barcelona and could cost \u00a3130m. Leandro Trossard is expected to be allowed to join Besiktas after the Turkish club agreed a \u00a317m fee for the 31-year-old.<\/p>\n Arsenal have lined up the signing of the former Leeds goalkeeper Islan Meslier on a free transfer but it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman will be David Raya\u2019s main understudy next season.
