The decision by the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit denied the Trump administration\u2019s request to pause the lower court order in a lawsuit brought by Democratic Representative Joyce Beatty, a Kennedy Center board member.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s ruling again affirms that this administration\u2019s efforts to rename the\u00a0Kennedy\u00a0Center\u00a0were unlawful,\u201d Beatty said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis name no longer desecrates this sacred memorial, which belongs to the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n
The panel of judges wrote on Wednesday that the board of trustees\u2019 request \u201cfailed to show how they will be irreparably injured\u201d if Trump\u2019s name remains off the building through the appeal process.<\/p>\n
The board had argued that the removal \u201cthreatens to impede\u201d fundraising efforts, but the judges found that claim came without the support of \u201cspecific facts or evidence\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Kennedy Center did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment from the Associated Press news agency.<\/p>\n
When Trump first took office in 2025, he replaced the Kennedy Center\u2019s board of trustees, who then named him chairman.
