Christian Horner has insisted he will only return to F1 if it is in a position that gives him the opportunity to \u201cdrive difference\u201d at a squad.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Horner held the team principal role at Red Bull for over 20 years before he was suddenly dismissed just days after the 2025 British Grand Prix.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
The 52-year-old has been linked to various positions in F1 ever since his exit, but had to serve a period of gardening leave to stop him from joining a new team straight away.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Alpine, Aston Martin and Ferrari have been among those Horner has been linked with since his exit from Red Bull.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Now free to take up any opportunity available to him, Horner stated it was important he was not left unable to work for too long.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery week there\u2019s somebody speculating that I\u2019m going somewhere,\u201d\u00a0Horner told The Times. \u201cIt\u2019s flattering that people still talk about you.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s inevitable that conversations happen, but until very recently, I\u2019ve not been able to do anything [on gardening leave].\u00a0\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m now technically a free agent \u2014 which was always important to me when I left Red Bull, not to be locked down for too long a period.\u201d\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
As well as being rumoured to take on a role at an existing team, Horner has also been linked with having a key position at a potential 12th team, with Chinese manufacturer BYD reportedly holding talks with F1 over joining the grid.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Horner insisted that should he return to the sport, it would be in a capacity bigger than the duties he had as team principal at Red Bull.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\u201cI have no interest in just being a number in a machine,\u201d\u00a0he said.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve more than demonstrated what I\u2019m capable of doing, and if I go back, it would only be in a position where you were empowered to make a change, to drive difference, to win.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\u201cI know that I would become very frustrated very quickly doing anything else.
