{"id":791317,"date":"2026-07-09T20:57:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T20:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/791317\/"},"modified":"2026-07-09T20:57:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T20:57:09","slug":"arson-at-st-vital-walmart-did-10m-in-damages-winnipeg-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/791317\/","title":{"rendered":"Arson at St. Vital Walmart did $10M in damages: Winnipeg police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monday\u2019s arson at the Walmart on St. Mary\u2019s Road in St. Vital did more than $10 million in damages, Winnipeg police say.<\/p>\n<p>The Winnipeg Police Service alleges a fire was deliberately set in the store\u2019s bedding section shortly before 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say the fire spread quickly and resulted in thick black smoke throughout the store. The roughly 150 to 200 patrons and staff were evacuated from the building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the fire spread, the suspect attended an attached fast-food restaurant, helped himself to a beverage from the soft drink machine, and sat down at one of the tables,\u201d Winnipeg police said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>Ronald Marmito Amigo, 47, was arrested Thursday on Furby Street near Portage Avenue. Police allege they seized from him a lighter and a small amount of methamphetamine.<\/p>\n<p>He was charged with arson with disregard for human life, arson causing damage to property, possession of methamphetamine, failure to comply with a probation order, and other offences.
