For Hushovd, the pride in what Torstein has achieved is clear \u2014 but so is the medical decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cTorstein has given the team a historic moment, and what he and the whole team have achieved these past days is something we will always be proud of. But after the further checks, it was clear that he could not continue,\u201d says General Manager Thor Hushovd.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo wear the yellow jersey in the Tour de France is massive for any rider and any team. For Torstein to do that, and to take the jersey over the Tourmalet, is something very special,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is of course disappointing to leave the race like this, but now the most important thing is that Torstein gets the care and recovery he needs,\u201d Hushovd says.<\/p>\n
Torstein took the yellow jersey after Stage 4 and defended it through Stage 5, giving Uno-X Mobility its first ever days in yellow at the Tour de France.<\/p>\n
He will now begin a period of recovery, supported by the team\u2019s medical staff.
