Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette says his position has not changed when it comes to a high-speed rail for southern Ontario.<\/p>\n

Malette chatted with Quinte News Thursday morning, as we looked to get clarification on where he stands on the Alto project, which would have a corridor(s) from Toronto to Quebec City<\/p>\n

Trains could be travelling up to 300 km\/h, running through the Quinte region.<\/p>\n

In February, the Member of Parliament released a statement on the proposal (at the time) CLICK HERE<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cMy criticism at the time and it still stands, and I\u2019ll say it to all regional officials whenever I meet them, is they\u2019ve unfortunately left the door open for fear to rush in where fact hadn\u2019t been provided. What happened, was a wide swath was painted on a map.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that local infrastructure and environmental concerns are always going to be factored into the consultation.<\/p>\n

The MP says he is representing the area and laying out the concerns of residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, unfortunately, it\u2019s become a political football because that vacuum that had been filled by, \u201cthey\u2019re going to expropriate my century family farm\u201d and that sort of thing. Unfortunately, political parties for political gain, have stoked that fear. It\u2019s not productive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Malette joined Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon in Kingston for an announcement discussing stops along the 401 corridor for the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in favour of whatever is determined come November after all of the consultation. Right now, what has got me most enthused is this Eastern Ontario route along Highway 401 with stations and stops in Kingston, Belleville, and Brockville.\u201d<\/p>\n
