{"id":792562,"date":"2026-07-10T10:18:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T10:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/792562\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T10:18:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T10:18:13","slug":"dnd-buys-two-ottawa-properties-amid-spending-spree-space-crunch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/792562\/","title":{"rendered":"DND buys two Ottawa\u00a0properties amid spending spree,\u00a0space crunch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Department of National Defence has purchased two Ottawa properties, including an office building and industrial facility, amid a spending push and real estate crunch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">DND previously leased the facilities located at 1600 and 1630 Star Top Rd. in Ottawa&#8217;s east-end industrial park, but decided its &#8220;needs would be best served through direct ownership of the properties,&#8221; according to spokesperson Andr\u00e9e-Anne Poulin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The purchase, which closed on April 1 and was first reported by the Ottawa Business Journal, is a response to &#8220;evolving long-term requirements&#8221; at DND, Poulin said in an email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The facilities will continue to support longer term DND and Canadian Armed Forces operational requirements in the National Capital Region.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">DND paid $59 million for the properties.
