Coronation Street star Sam Aston has commended his co-star and on-screen son Will Flanagan, ahead of Will’s character Joseph Winter-Brown returning to our screens.<\/p>\n

Having been notably absent from recent scenes, Joseph will be back in focus next week in a new storyline<\/a>, when it transpires that his grandmother Linda Hancock can no longer pay his private school fees.<\/p>\n

However, when his father Chesney comes up with the money, Joseph must apply himself at school after previously getting a bad report for failing to do his homework.<\/p>\n

Now that his place at Oakhill School is safe, will Joseph apply himself and succeed academically? <\/p>\n

When speaking exclusively to Inside Soap<\/a>, Sam enthused about Will’s performance and his conduct off-screen.<\/p>\n

“Will is absolutely top,” Sam grins. “He\u2019s a really nice lad and he\u2019s become one of my best little pals. Every now and again, we might go and play golf or something like that. <\/p>\n

“Dolly-Rose [Campbell, who plays Gemma] takes the mick, actually, because I\u2019m a bit of an old soul, and she calls me, ‘Old man Chesney’. Now Will\u2019s getting into golf, and he\u2019s a little bit of an old soul, she\u2019s like, ‘You\u2019ve turned him into old man Chesney!'”<\/p>\n

Sam also teased what could be ahead for Chesney and his wife Gemma Winter-Brown, pointing out that the couple don’t often get good luck due to the hardships they’ve faced together.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s nice when they\u2019re a happy family,” Sam says. “They\u2019ve been through a lot between the two of them. But it\u2019s always fun to film some of the drama, so as long as Chesney\u2019s there, I\u2019m happy either way. We\u2019ll have to see; obviously they don\u2019t get lucky, do they, let\u2019s be honest!”
