Following Sony’s announcement<\/a> to end production of physical game discs in 2028, PNP Games has opened a petition to convince them to overturn their decision.<\/p>\n

Titled Don’t Kill the Disc: Tell Sony to Keep Physical PlayStation Games<\/a>, the petition currently has over 279,000 signatures, and thousands of comments from supporters.<\/p>\n

In the description of the petition, Jade Pearce of PNP Games had this to say:<\/p>\n

“This is also about jobs. Physical games support an entire industry
\nthat an all-digital future quietly erases: retailers, distributors,
\nmanufacturers, warehousing and logistics, the pre-owned and trade-in
\nmarket, and the collector and preservation community. That is thousands
\nof jobs and countless small businesses. Ending physical media removes
\nconsumer choice, weakens local economies, and hands a few platform
\nholders total control over how, and whether, you can access the games
\nyou buy.<\/p>\n

We are not against digital. We are against digital being the only
\noption. A large and passionate community still wants a real, physical
\ngame they own outright, and Sony is about to take that choice away.<\/p>\n

Sign to tell Sony to keep disc-based games alive beyond 2028, so the
\nnext generation can own the games they play, not just rent them. If we
\ndo not speak up now, the disc disappears, and the choice goes with it.”<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the decision will still be Sony’s call; however, while fans continue to take to social media to voice their contempt, this is an organized way to show Sony just how many people truly care about physical releases.<\/p>\n
