The much-anticipated meeting between Austin Hill, Shane van Gisbergen, and NASCAR officials just wrapped up.\u00a0 Both Hill and van Gisbergen reacted following the 17-minute meeting in NASCAR\u2019s version of the principal\u2019s office.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Van Gisbergen was the first to emerge from the NASCAR hauler.\u00a0 He offered a very brief response to the events that took place inside.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAh, it went,\u201d responded van Gisbergen when asked how it went<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n Hill offered a bit more, but remained guarded<\/a> after the hauler talk with NASCAR officials. He first joked with reporters, asking if van Gisbergen didn\u2019t want to make a comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAll of it [was interesting],\u201d said Hill.\u00a0 \u201cNASCAR let us know what we need to do moving forward.\u00a0 I will leave that in there (the hauler).\u201d<\/p>\n Asked if he and van Gisbergen had a conversation \u2026 or just grunted, Hill said there was a conversation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re going to go to a race and, yeah, I\u2019m looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked if it was settled, Hill simply said, \u201cI sure hope so.\u201d<\/p>\n The reason for the meeting<\/p>\n On Lap 47 of the eero 400 at Chicagoland Speedway<\/a>, Shane van Gisbergen clipped the left rear of Austin Hill and crumpled No. 33 Zone Chevy. Immediately, Richard Childress said van Gisbergen intentionally wrecked Hill in retribution for Hill wrecking both van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch out of the race at Naval Base Coronado two weeks earlier.<\/p>\n There was retaliation by Hill following the initial incident. In-car footage shows Hill, after making it back to pit road, was told to go back to the garage to see if his RCR team could repair the car.\u00a0<\/p>\n Upon leaving the pits to get back on the track to go back around to enter the garage area, Hill hit van Gisbergen in the left front under caution.\u00a0 He was told over team radio, just prior to contact, \u201cBig picture, Austin.\u00a0 Big picture, please.\u201d<\/p>\n NASCAR ultimately decided not to penalize either driver<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n NASCAR explains decision not to penalize either driver<\/p>\n
