Two people were killed and at least six\u00a0others were injured in a shooting in the Canadian city<\/a> of Toronto on Saturday night, police said.<\/p>\n

Toronto Police said the suspects\u00a0remained at large, but that\u00a0the scene has been secured. They also urged the public to avoid the area.<\/p>\n

What do we know about the Toronto shooting?<\/p>\n

The incident happened in the early evening\u00a0near St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue during\u00a0the Salsa on St. Clair festival \u2014 Canada’s largest Latin street festival.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police said the suspect or suspects\u00a0were\u00a0still at large, without providing any more information.<\/p>\n

The deputy chief at Toronto Police, Frank Barredo, told reporters there had been some initial “concern about an active shooter.\u00a0That turned out not to be the case.”<\/p>\n

But Barredo said two firearms had been found\u00a0and that the shooting involved an exchange of fire between two gunmen who had\u00a0“indiscriminately put vast numbers of people in danger.”<\/p>\n

Barredo also said both of the fatalities were male.<\/p>\n

Mass shootings are rare in Toronto<\/p>\n

“I am devastated by the senseless violence at the Salsa on St. Clair Festival that has claimed two lives and injured others,”\u00a0Ontario Premier Doug Ford wrote in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the victims, their families and everyone affected.”<\/p>\n

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on X that he was “horrified by the shooting that has killed two people at the Salsa on St. Clair Festival in Toronto.”<\/p>\n

“My prayers are with the families grieving their loved ones,” he said.<\/p>\n

Toronto is one of the safest cities in North America. Fatal shootings, particularly those involving multiple victims<\/a> in public, are relatively rare in Canada, particularly compared to the US<\/a> and Mexico.<\/p>\n
