\n\tGal Gadot<\/a> has issued a detailed clarification following her comments about the box office performance of Snow White<\/a> going viral over the weekend. <\/p>\n \n\tThe actress, who played the Evil Queen in Disney\u2019s live-action adaptation of its classic animated tale, previously stated<\/a> during an interview on an Israeli TV show that the film \u201cwas going to be a huge hit\u201d until Hamas\u2019 terror attack on Israel in 2023. She added there was \u201ca lot of pressure put on celebrities, actors, creators to post against Israel\u201d and \u201cI was disappointed that the movie was incredibly affected by all of that.\u201d (In the run-up to the film\u2019s release, Gadot expressed her of support of Israel, and star Rachel Zegler made pro-Palestine statements; both had factions online calling for a boycott of the film).<\/p>\n \n\tWriting on her Instagram stories, Gadot clarified her position: \u201cI was honored to join an extraordinary interview with inspiring interviewers, whose questions go straight to the heart. Sometimes we respond to questions from an emotional place. When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticized me in a very personal, almost visceral way. They saw me first and foremost as an Israeli, not as an actress. That\u2019s the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question. Of course, the film didn\u2019t fail solely because of external pressures. There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails, and success is never guaranteed \u2026\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tGadot\u2019s original comments in full were: \u201cI really enjoyed filming that movie, I really had fun. Even working alongside Rachel Zegler. We laughed and we talked, we had fun. I was positive the movie was going to be a huge hit. And then Oct. 7 happened, and what happened all over in different industries, not just Hollywood, there was a lot of pressure put on celebrities, actors, creators to post against Israel. And it happened. I can always explain and try to give people in the world context about the situation and the reality in Israel, and I always do that. But at the end, people make up their own minds. And I was disappointed that the movie was incredibly affected by all of that and that it\u00a0didn\u2019t do well at the box office<\/a>. But it is what it is, you win some, you lose some.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tReleased in March, Snow White had a global box office performance of $205 million while costing nearly $300 million to produce. Reviews were largely negative, with the film averaging a 39 percent positive score on Rotten Tomatoes. <\/p>\n
