{"id":798049,"date":"2026-07-13T00:15:57","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T00:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/798049\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T00:15:57","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T00:15:57","slug":"air-quality-warnings-lifted-for-ottawa-gatineau-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/798049\/","title":{"rendered":"Air quality warnings lifted for Ottawa-Gatineau region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">UPDATE: Environment Canada lifted its air quality warnings for Ottawa-Gatineau and the surrounding area on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Environment Canada has issued an air quality warning for Ottawa-Gatineau and parts of the surrounding area due to smoke from Quebec forest fires.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Wildfire smoke is expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility in and around the national capital, the weather agency said in a yellow-level alert Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">People should limit time outside and consider rescheduling outdoor activities, Environment Canada said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Smoke can cause minor symptoms like headaches, a mild cough and ear, nose and throat irritation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">More serious symptoms include wheezing, chest pains and severe coughing, Environment Canada said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The agency initially said the air quality in Ottawa was expected to improve by Sunday morning, but the alert has now been extended.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As of 1:15 p.m. Sunday, yellow-level warnings are in place for a wide swath of eastern Ontario, mostly to the south and west of the nation&#8217;s capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">They cover Kingston, Gananoque, Belleville, Quinte West, Perth, Renfrew and numerous other communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The alert is also in place for western Quebec communities to the north of Gatineau, including Chelsea, Val-des-Monts, and Maniwaki.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"UPDATE: Environment Canada lifted its air quality warnings for Ottawa-Gatineau and the surrounding area on Sunday afternoon.
