\n\tFrom London to the Lone Star State, Crist\u00f3 Fern\u00e1ndez is experiencing a bit of life imitating art with his professional soccer<\/a> debut.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Ted Lasso<\/a> star, who signed with El Paso Locomotive FC<\/a> in May, played his first game with the second division team on Saturday against New Mexico United, during which the Texas team lost 2-0 in the United Soccer League<\/a> Cup match.<\/p>\n

\n\tFern\u00e1ndez took to the field as a substitute for forward Rubio Rub\u00edn in the 79th minute of Saturday\u2019s home match at Southwest University Park, which was attended by more than 5,000 fans.<\/p>\n

\n\tHaving previously played with Tecos FC at the youth level, before an injury sidelined him, Fern\u00e1ndez signed with El Paso<\/a> in May, following a two-month trial.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cF\u00fatbol has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my hear,\u201d he said in a statement at the time. \u201cI\u2019m incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC \u2013 the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates \u2013 for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFern\u00e1ndez continued, \u201cThis journey back to professional f\u00fatbol soccer is about believing in yourself, taking risks, and continuing to chase your dreams no matter how unexpected the path may be. Because as we say in Mexico: hay que seguirle echando ganas (let\u2019s keep giving it our all). Siempre agradecido con Dios, mi familia y amistades por creer en m\u00ed. Maybe I\u2019m just a crazy man with crazy dreams\u2026 so being here with the \u2018Locos\u2019 actually makes perfect sense. \u00a1Vamos Locos!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs Fern\u00e1ndez kicks off his first season with the Locos, it\u2019s unclear if he will reprise his role as cheerful and passionate striker Dani Rojas in Season 4 of Ted Lasso, which premieres Aug. 5<\/a> on Apple TV+.
