1 man injured in police officer-involved shooting in Surrey<\/p>\n

One person was injured in an officer-involved shooting that happened in Surrey Wednesday night between a Surrey RCMP Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) officer and man who allegedly had a knife.<\/p>\n
Around 8 p.m. Wednesday (July 8), police officers responded to a report that a distressed man had left a residence in the 14100-block of Melrose Drive with an edged weapon, an Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) release shared.<\/p>\n
Officers attended the area and conducted patrols to locate the man and, shortly after 8 p.m., the man was located by police near 111A Avenue and Wallace Drive.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was then an interaction which resulted in a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) deployment and shots being fired by police,\u201d the IIO release said.<\/p>\n
The man sustained \u201cserious\u201d injuries and was transported to a local hospital for assessment and treatment.<\/p>\n
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and is investigating the incident.<\/p>\n
