Since the Province revealed in Budget 2026 that it will be \u201cadjusting the pace\u201d of $1.4 billion in housing investments, there has been much uproar about how projects being developed via the Community Housing Fund have been impacted.<\/p>\n

There has been various reports about projects being stuck in limbo and not being able to be advanced because of the sudden change. I found some numbers buried in a Metro Vancouver Regional District report detailing exactly how many projects have been impacted and what that impact has looked like. My story for The Tyee: <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The big headlines.<\/p>\n

The Province announced $9 million in funding for 56 municipalities<\/a> to fast-track development approvals in the third intake of the Local Government Development Approvals Program.<\/p>\n

The Province also quietly published regulations for its proposed PST expansion<\/a>, including details about PST on architectural services<\/a> and non-residential real estate services<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Several municipalities that received their provincial housing target orders in 2024 have now published their Year Two progress reports. Keep up with all the progress via The Realist\u2019s Housing Supply Targets Dashboard<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The City of Vancouver has published complete details about its new Amenity Cost Charge (ACC) program<\/a>, including proposed rates, waivers, and in-stream protection. Council is set to approve the program this week alongside an update to its DCL program.<\/p>\n

The City of Burnaby has launched its AI PreCheck Digital Building Permit Review Tool<\/a>. <\/p>\n

A receivership application<\/a> has been filed against the Burnaby Lake Heights master-planned project by Create Properties, as first reported by The Realist, but the developer is now working with the lender, LG Financial, on a resolution to halt the proceedings and advance Phase One of the 14-acre project.<\/p>\n

Westbank CEO Ian Gillespie skipped a court deposition<\/a> in the ongoing legal battle with former VP of Development Rhiannon Mabberley and instead attended a FIFA World Cup match at BC Place, according to the Vancouver Sun. <\/p>\n

Two national-level commercial real estate stories:<\/p>\n

Both the office market and industrial market are tightening again<\/a>. Office rent grew for the first time in several quarters and the industrial market has remained strong despite concerns about tariff impact, as I reported for RENX.<\/p>\n

Trophy office assets have now accounted for 25% of all office sales<\/a> in Canada since 2025, a significant increase compared to the previous cycle, as I reported for Storeys. <\/p>\n

And two Ontario insolvency stories from me for Storeys:<\/p>\n

TD Bank has placed the 27-storey Burlington Waterfront project<\/a> by Core Development Group under receivership, in a rare insolvency involving one of Canada\u2019s big banks. The site is set to be listed by Colliers soon.<\/p>\n

After the sales process turned up no offers, lender KingSett Capital is now taking over the two-tower Labatt Village project in Toronto by TAS via a credit bid totalling at least $84.1 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n
