The move gives the Spurs more financial flexibility to keep this core together and continue building a championship contender around him.<\/p>\n<p>Wembanyama will make just over $16 million this coming season. When the new extension begins next summer, his salary jumps to about $43 million and climbs to more than $57 million by the fifth year.<\/p>\n<p>The deal also includes a player option in the final season, giving him the opportunity to opt out and become a free agent if he chooses.<\/p>\n<p>By accepting more than $50 million less than the maximum he could have earned, Wembanyama is sending a clear message: winning matters more than maximizing every dollar of his contract.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PARIS, France &#8211; Huge Spurs news over the weekend!
