Prince William is understanding of his dad King Charles\u2019 reunion with Prince Harry<\/a> \u2014 but he has no plans to reconnect with his estranged brother. <\/p>\n

\u201cPrince William probably understands why his father did it, even if he wouldn\u2019t have done it himself,\u201d royal expert Kinsey Schofield theorized to Page Six.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe can appreciate that a father living with cancer wants to see his son and grandchildren, while still believing that Harry has not earned his way back into the family\u2019s confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schofield continued that the future King\u2019s \u201cpriority\u201d is \u201cprotecting the institution he\u2019ll one day inherit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn his mind, the issue has never been whether Harry is family; it\u2019s whether Harry can be trusted,\u201d she said. \u201cOne afternoon at Highgrove doesn\u2019t answer that question. King Charles can afford to think about legacy. Prince William has to think about longevity.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Friday, Buckingham Palace confirmed Charles and Queen Camilla hosted Harry, Meghan Markle and their children<\/a> \u2014 Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 \u2014 at Highgrove House. This marks the first time Charles, 77, has seen his grandkids in four years.<\/p>\n

Schofield believes that even though they have reunited, this \u201cdoesn\u2019t erase the past.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t mean the Palace should forget everything that\u2019s happened over the last six years,\u201d she theorized. \u201cA father can forgive. A monarch still has to protect the Crown. \u2026 One meeting is easy. Rebuilding trust is extraordinarily difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n

William, 44, avoided his younger brother during the UK trip, making separate public appearances<\/a> just miles apart on July 7. <\/p>\n

The future King visited the Ysgol Gymraeg Llundain, The London Welsh School, on Tuesday, while Harry, 41, attended the 14th Invictus Games Foundation Conversation: From Policy to Practice at Chatham House that same day.<\/p>\n

The brothers have been estranged for years. Harry opened up about their feud in his 2023 memoir, \u201cSpare<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the book, Harry claimed his brother was favored growing up. He even wrote about an alleged physical altercation<\/a> after William called his sister-in-law Markle \u201cdifficult,\u201d \u201crude\u201d and \u201cabrasive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt all happened so fast,\u201d Harry penned. \u201cSo very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harry \u2014 who resigned from his royal duties in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California, with his family \u2014 initially arrived to the UK alone after he was denied taxpayer-funded security<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Page Six confirmed Thursday that the \u201cAs Ever\u201d founder and their children would make the trip \u2014 though they were not scheduled to make any public appearances as a family. Photos of their reunion with Charles and Camilla were not made public.<\/p>\n

During the trip, a UK High Court judge ruled against Harry and six other claimants in their lawsuit<\/a>. They sued Daily Mail\u2019s publisher, Associated Newspapers, for breach of privacy because they did not provide sufficient proof that the stories were obtained unlawfully.<\/p>\n
