A 42-year-old man is dead after being shot by a Winnipeg police officer at a home in the city’s Linden Woods area Monday night.<\/p>\n
The shooting followed a call to police from a man who said his brother had locked him out of their home on Avon Gate \u2014 just off Victor Lewis Drive and west of Waverley Street \u2014 and was “behaving erratically and threatening to damage property,” Winnipeg Police Service Deputy Chief George Labossi\u00e8re said at a Tuesday news conference.<\/p>\n

“The only details I have is that when they arrived on scene, they weren’t able to get into the home,” but “after a few moments of [police] being on scene, the individual came out of the home on his own,” he said.<\/p>\n
The man was critically injured and got emergency medical care from the officers, who were helped by a neighbour who rushed over to assist while awaiting paramedics.<\/p>\n
The 42-year-old was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.<\/p>\n
Labossi\u00e8re said both officers who initially responded to the call have been placed under the police force’s critical incident protocol, which involves removing them from the workplace \u2014 something he said is done for the officers’ well-being and to maintain neutrality for the investigation.<\/p>\n
