Comox to host Island\u2019s first EV-powered movie night<\/p>\n

Comox is going to be the first community on Vancouver Island to host a fully electric vehicle-powered movie night.<\/p>\n
On July 24, BC Hydro and the town of Comox will be hosting a screening of Disney\u2019s Hoppers, and the movie will be powered entirely by an electric vehicle.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe event will see noisy, gas\u2011powered generators replaced with a quiet, setup that runs off an EV battery \u2014 eliminating noise, fumes, and emissions,\u201d says a release from BC Hydro. \u201cIt\u2019s a real\u2011world demonstration of how electric vehicles powered by the province\u2019s electricity system \u2014 already 98 per cent clean \u2014 can energize large community gatherings.\u201d<\/p>\n
The movie night is part of BC Hydro\u2019s broader effort to show what a clean\u2011powered future looks and feels like \u2014 including how electric vehicles can serve as mobile power sources for homes, businesses and community events.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs more British Columbians adopt EVs, these vehicles represent a flexible and increasingly powerful energy resource,\u201d the release says. \u201cEvents like this also highlight the role BC Hydro\u2019s reservoirs and recreation sites play across the province, offering free or low\u2011cost spaces for people to connect with nature and enjoy community experiences supported by clean energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The movie experience is a small but meaningful example of how clean energy can enhance everyday experiences. While the clean\u2011energy technology is a highlight, the heart of the evening remains the shared experience. Families are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy a relaxed summer evening under the stars.<\/p>\n

People can start arriving at 7:00 p.m., with the movie beginning at around 9:15 p.m. at sunset. Admission is free, and concessions and giveaways will be available throughout the evening. BC Hydro will be bringing more clean\u2011powered events like this to communities across B.C. The first took place in Mission on July 10 and the next will take place in Revelstoke on August 21.
