{"id":802988,"date":"2026-07-15T06:51:15","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T06:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/802988\/"},"modified":"2026-07-15T06:51:15","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T06:51:15","slug":"spike-belt-stops-fleeing-vehicle-near-vernon-surrey-man-arrested-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/802988\/","title":{"rendered":"Spike belt stops fleeing vehicle near Vernon; Surrey man arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>              Spike belt stops fleeing vehicle near Vernon; Surrey man arrested<\/p>\n<p class=\"pubStamp\">Published 3:37 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2026<\/p>\n<p>A 23-year-old Surrey man is facing multiple charges following an incident in Vernon which ended with an RCMP spike belt being successfully deployed.<\/p>\n<p>Just before 6 p.m. Saturday, July 11, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle in front of a home on 25th Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>An officer found the vehicle moving a block south on 24th Avenue, and initiated a traffic stop to identify the driver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of stopping, the vehicle accelerated and fled dangerously at a high rate of speed,\u201d said Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media liaison officer Const. Chris Terleski.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the interest of public safety, the officer did not pursue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later that night, police received information that the same vehicle was stopped in a neighbourhood near Predator Ridge Resort.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tEmail newsletter signup &#13;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/todayinbc.com\/newsletters\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#13;<br \/>\n<img data-perfmatters-preload=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Newletter_signUp_Small.png\" alt=\"Newsletter SignUp\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Officers, with the help an RCMP Police Dog Service team, set up containment in the area and deployed a spike belt in anticipation of the vehicle becoming mobile.<\/p>\n<p>A short time later, the vehicle left the area and was disabled by the belt, which allowed RCMP to take the driver into custody without incident.<\/p>\n<p>The driver remains in custody.
