Police looking for suspect after \u2018suspicious fire\u2019 at Surrey city hall<\/p>\n

Surrey Police are investigating an early Monday morning fire at Surrey City Hall that \u201cresulted in significant property damage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Surrey Fire responded to a call of a fire at city hall around 3:30 a.m. Monday (July 13). Upon arrival, firefighters found the southwest side of the building was engulfed in smoke.<\/p>\n
\u201cSurrey Fire Services advised SPS officers that the fire had likely started outside City Hall in a portable toilet, located against the building, which then caused the building\u2019s exterior glass to break due to the heat,\u201d Surrey police said in a news release. \u201cSmoke then entered City Hall and triggered the interior sprinkler system.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police believe the fire is \u201chuman-caused\u201d and are looking for a possible suspect who was seen on security footage before the incident.<\/p>\n
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 45-65 years old, with short hair and a slim build. He was last seen wearing a light-coloured hat, a dark-coloured shirt with a graphic on the front, dark-coloured shorts, and slides with light-coloured socks. He had a white lanyard around his neck and a dark-coloured fanny pack around his waist.<\/p>\n
SPS is asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or who has information about the fire to please call SPS\u2019 non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file 26-72511 (SP).<\/p>\n
