Las Vegas Grand Prix and its parent company agreed to pay over $3 million to settle a class-action lawsuit tied to the inaugural 2023 race where a loose water valve cover caused an hourslong delay<\/a>, sending fans home without seeing the day\u2019s final practice session.<\/p>\n

Fans who had one-day tickets to the practice session on Nov. 23, 2023, or three-day tickets for the 2023 F1 race are eligible for a cash payout from LVGP and Liberty Media Corp.<\/p>\n

The suit claims that LVGP could have continued hosting fans after the incident during which a water valve cover came loose during the first practice session, damaging multiple race cars and leading to a 2 1\/2 hour delay. Neither Liberty Media nor the Las Vegas Grand Prix admitted any wrongdoing in the 2023 incident.<\/p>\n

Race attendees who purchased a ticket through the Las Vegas Grand Prix or Ticketmaster do not have to submit a claim form to receive reimbursement. Those who received tickets outside of Ticketmaster must file a claim form to be eligible for a settlement.<\/p>\n

The amount received by each attendee will be determined by how many claimants there are and after deducting attorney fees, which will be no more than $914,396, according to the settlement.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit, filed in 2023<\/a>, initially sought $5 billion. The case was dismissed in part in February 2025<\/a>, but the plaintiff filed an amended complaint that allowed the case to continue, leading to the eventual settlement.<\/p>\n

The deadline to file a claim form is Aug. 27. The settlement must be approved by the court before compensation can be made to eligible parties. A fairness hearing for the settlement is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Nov. 4 in District Court.<\/p>\n
